When the eleven saboteurs carried out Operation Gunnerside, also known as the heavy water operation at Vemork, they not only carried out one of the most important operations during World War II. They also wrote themselves into the history books as heroes. Who were they really? You will find out here.
Real heroes are people too
Under the leadership of second lieutenant Joachim Rønneberg, the saboteurs managed to sneak into the heavy water cellar and blow up the heavy water plant. It was an action that prevented the Germans from being able to develop nuclear weapons.
In this exhibition, you will learn more about how the action itself was planned and carried out, while also becoming better acquainted with those who carried it out.
